Zakat Fitr

Description

Zakat Al-Fitr collection and distribution is managed by QMC-CMQ according to the following guidelines:

1. Zakat Al-Fitr will be given, as food or in cash, to poor people in Gaza (or in Egypt only for late payments of zakat that, because they arrived late, we might not distribute to Gaza on time) before Salat of Eid according to this Fatwa.
2. Collection of Zakat will be blocked at 10:30 PM of the last day of Ramadan, i.e. the online payment system will be no more available (because we will not be able to distribute money received afterwards).
3. The value of Zakat accounts for the different opinions of scholars in Canada. You are free to choose whichever you would like to follow or calculate it yourself.
4. It is calculated according to this equation for each person: 2.75 Kg x price of Dates (8 – 20 $ CAD/Kg) or Rice (3.5 – 4.5 $ CAD/Kg) or Wheat (6 – 18 $ CAD/Kg) which make a range of zakat fitr that starts from 10$ to 55 $ (not including transaction fees).
5. This amount includes the transaction fees required local money collection and for international money transfer (0.3$ flat fee per transaction + 3% per transaction). We pay on top these fees other fees like the international wire fees.
6. All money received will be totally distributed to poor in Muslim Countries. QMC receives nothing of this money, instead it pays additional amounts to support the process of receipt and distribution of money to poor.
